Understanding stock CFDs

This is trading in shares without owning shares. More technical and less sentiment-driven, with equity CFDs you take positions on the future share price of a company with more flexibility than buying and selling the shares directly. If you predict poor future performance you can go short to profit from a price fall, or conversely if you expect a price jump you can use leverage to enhance your return.

Stock CFDs are also a great way to hedge a long term investment portfolio by taking short term positions in the opposite direction through a period of volatility or uncertainty.

Equities and leverage

Individual equities tend to experience more dramatic price movements than global markets such as FX, which means there is no need to add leverage in order to generate significant profits or losses. It is however possible to add leverage to multiply a trade outcome, typically only to a maximum of 10:1.
